Today, we have several messaging chat apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Snapchat, Telegram, Hike, WeChat, Line, and Google Hangouts. Recently, Google launched its messaging chat app “Allo” for Android and iOS platforms that makes your conversations easier and more expressive. And now it is being pitted against the already established giant named WhatsApp.
So, how is Google’s Allo different from WhatsApp?
A new product can only become dominant if people choose to adopt it. Switching or even trying-out new things tends not to happen unless the new product brings very significant advantages. Even then, the adoption is slow. Because of the network effect -“All my friends are on …”
WhatsApp has 1 billion monthly active users. It handles more than 600 million photos and 64 billion overall messages every day. This is a humongous number. Because WhatsApp was able to penetrate the market and engage users as it was simple to use. But some reasons indicate that it might be possible for the Allo to compete with WhatsApp and to penetrate the market. Those are –
- Google Assistant(Artificial Intelligence) – The artificial intelligence is pretty good and this feature is missing in Whatsapp and this AI pretty fun to use and it gives different options if we ask it and it answers pretty straightforward.
- Stickers – It has some pretty cool stickers and more stickers will be added in the near future. This feature is not available in Whatsapp as it contains only smileys.
- Incognito Chat – Incognito Mode isn’t the default mode because you won’t get any features like Assistant or Smart Reply. But when you choose to go Incognito, you’ll get end-to-end encryption, meaning Google and other nosy third-party partners aren’t accessing your conversation. Incognito Mode also lets you set an expiration time (ranging from 5 seconds to one week) that will make your chat will disappear on schedule.
- UI – User Interface is pretty amazing with its vibrant color fonts and icons.
By seeing above points it’s evident that Google Allo has an edge over Whatsapp. So we are waiting to see who will win finally !
